Sharon Eubank's reminder of the good you're doing in the world
Hi friends!
We loved hearing what Sharon Eubank had to say about the power of women to do good in the world.
“So much good happens by ordinary women doing ordinary things. The things that you’re doing every single day, you don’t have to strive to be a humanitarian, you already are one.”
We don’t have to traverse the globe to do service that matters. Each of us can be a backyard humanitarian. Sharon’s advice for where to begin?
Learn to ask questions that don’t have predetermined answers: What is it you really need?
It really can be that simple. Here’s how we’ve seen this happen.
Our friend Steph had to leave her newborn baby in the hospital for a few days. She got a call from a friend who is a doctor who simply asked, “What are you most worried about?” The thing Steph needed most was to know that her baby was going to receive the best care possible and that she didn’t need to find a better hospital. Steph said, “My friend was able to confidently reassure me that the hospital was fine, and it had all it needed to care for my little girl. Her credible words were the comfort I needed. Her personal interest in me made me feel seen and loved by God.”
Our friend Anna’s husband recently received a stressful health diagnosis. Shortly after they got the news, she was asked to say the closing prayer in Relief Society and ended up crying all the way through. After the prayer, she sat down and was immediately surrounded by kind women offering tissues and hugs. Anna said, “I felt frozen on display until my friend walked over and asked, ‘Do you need one more hug?’ Because she asked and because I knew her, I found myself saying, ‘Yes!’ It turns out, I just needed to be heard without worrying that I was burdensome to another person. I'll always be grateful that she pulled me aside and asked what I needed instead of rushing to provide solutions.”
When we get the prompting to do good in the world, we don’t have to question if someone else could do it better. When we’re doing our part to be God’s hands, He’ll help us be enough.
