Notes about The Rock of Our Redeemer for book club

Hello friend!

We’re so excited to meet up with everyone this week to talk about The Rock of Our Redeemer by Elder David A. Bednar. We’ll have some fun giveaways and enjoy hearing from each other about what we’ve learned. To get our discussion going, we’ll start off with this question:

  • What quote from the book caused you to ponder more deeply?

Didn’t have time to finish the book? That’s okay—we know life gets busy! Come join us anyway.

Register here for your book club link and join us, 7pm (MST), Thursday, October 24 with guest host Tammy Uzelac Hall.

Here are a few notes from us with quotes we highlighted from the book to help you feel comfortable jumping in (or just listening in) on the discussion.

Note: Elder Bednar writes about the “enabling strength” of our covenants and the personal power and confidence that comes from making and keeping these promises with the Lord. When the path forward seems unclear, our covenants enable us to move forward with heavenly peace in our hearts.

“As we honor our covenants and keep the commandments, as we strive ever more consistently to do good and to become better, we can walk with the confidence that God will guide our steps. And we can speak with the assurance that God will inspire our utterances.”

Note: Regular study of the gospel is repetitive in nature for good reason—it helps us learn more by becoming familiar with the language of the Lord. Familiarity with the words in scripture and by modern leaders gives us a stronger conduit to personal revelation.

"Repetition invites the Holy Ghost to renew, enrich, and enlarge the knowledge we already have obtained; it also can bring new knowledge and understanding into our minds and hearts. Thus, repetition is a vehicle through which the Holy Ghost can enlighten our minds, influence our hearts, and enlarge our understanding."

We loved our Magnify podcast discussion with Mindy Brown and Maria Eckersley about the book. Their insights and learnings provide another great way to prep for book club. Even if you can join us with this time around, their thoughts provide inspiring ways to think about being a disciple of Jesus Christ. Listen here!

What’s better than an online meet-up? Gathering in person! There’s still time to join us at a Magnify event this fall. We’d love to see you.
