How to transform your life through meekness

Hi Friends!

Have you ever had a hard time understanding meekness? It’s one of those attributes where the world’s narrative and the gospel don’t really match up. Meekness isn’t valued in today’s world, and it’s sometimes even looked down upon and discouraged.

That gap between what the world is pushing and what Christ taught creates a beautiful invitation for us to lean in and learn more about the power of following Christ’s example. We can experience firsthand the difference between chasing what’s popular and seeking peace and joy through Christ.

This quote from David A. Bednar says it best:

The Christlike quality of meekness often is misunderstood in our contemporary world. Meekness is strong, not weak; active, not passive; courageous, not timid; restrained, not excessive; modest, not self-aggrandizing; and gracious, not brash. A meek person is not easily provoked, pretentious, or overbearing and readily acknowledges the accomplishments of others.”

We want to be strong, active, courageous, gracious people! And maybe meekness is the path to those things! Here are some things to help take us there!

Feel Better in 5! How to transform your life through meekness!

  • Be Teachable

    • Allowing ourselves to stay open to learning and seeing things from a perspective different than our own fuels love and connection in our relationships AND ensures we never stop progressing!

  • Be Generous

    • Giving people the benefit of the doubt, assuming the best, and giving and sharing freely without keeping score creates safe spaces where everyone (including ourselves) can evolve and improve!

  • Be Courageous

    • Meekness is not timidness, but it does require courage. Courage to choose peace, restraint, and humility. As we stand up for what we know is right, even when it’s not popular, we give others the courage to do the same.

  • Be Willing

    • Meekness sometimes asks us to be misunderstood, or to choose peace over conflict. As our willingness to trust the Lord and follow His example increases, so will our ability to create change in our lives and the world.

  • Be Patient

    • As we resist the urge to attempt to “force” God’s will, rush His timing, and navigate conflict and disappointment reactively, we will start to see the power in patience and meekness transform our hearts and temperaments. We will experience increased faith and peace on a daily basis.

There’s a better way to move through life—and that path is paved with meekness. Let’s all work to understand this powerful attribute better and put it into practice. As we do, our lives will change!
