Creating a spiritual legacy by being yourself
Here at Magnify, we are inspired by Sister Ardeth G. Kapp’s legacy because it reminds us of the quiet but powerful influence of the women in our circles and the impact their lives have on us in big and small ways. We marvel every day at the faith and strength of women we know who teach us through their example.
Most of us won’t make it into the history books, but that doesn’t mean we won’t leave a lasting legacy because of our spiritual strength. The Christlike example we emulate, the acts of service we perform, the love we give, these are things that can’t be measured—but they are felt, remembered, and cherished. Actions that show we are disciples of Christ create a ripple effect that fills our circles of influence with more hope and peace and then fortifies testimonies to create a lasting impact that cascades through generations.
Sister Kapp’s sister, Sharon Larson, said on the Magnify podcast, “Ardie understood that Christ was the greatest advocate for women, ever. She really walked the talk of ‘trust in the Lord with all your heart.’ She honestly trusted in the Lord and that Jesus Christ is her advocate from beginning to end.”
Don’t underestimate your unique, needed, individual worth in the eyes of our loving Heavenly Father. Each of us is needed in His great work and each of us is known by Him.
Feel Better in 5! Creating a spiritual legacy by being yourself
Bake the cake:
Like Ardeth G. Kapp, we can leave a treat and a note for that person on our mind, and not overthink if they need it, deserve it, or want it. When in doubt, choose to follow the good impulse, choose to see the best in others, and choose to trust ourselves.
Love well and love fiercely:
Ask the Lord to see others how He sees them. Then, we can show up without judgement and be full of support, concern, and caring as they navigate their life path.
Show up with kindness:
We get to choose how we approach every situation, and we can choose to be a pillar of kindness where it might be unexpected. When we allow the Savior to be our example and guide, our kindness can be powerful.
Listen actively:
We can hear the story someone needs to tell without forming judgment or worrying about what we should say next. Trust the Spirit to fill the silence and fill your mind with ideas to share. And if there aren’t ideas to share, remember your love is enough.
Walk confidently in faith:
We can pave the way, speak up, or try the new thing first. With guidance from the Spirit, we can trust the Lord will open doors and light the dark. “There’s so much more we can do than we think we can do.” Laurel Day, President of Deseret Book
